Where delegates stayed

Accommodation

Delegates arranged their own rooms. The organisers secured blocks at hotels near the venue and warned about misleading room agents.

01

Booking a room

The organising committee asked everyone to book their own room. The meeting had set aside rooms at several hotels near the venue, with rates held for delegates.

The organisers had arranged room blocks, some with a set number of rooms held for delegates, at hotels within walking distance and at others connected by public transport. Prices were quoted in Euro and included breakfast. Because the Utrecht accommodation market and prices were in constant flux, delegates were advised to book as soon as they had decided to attend and to compare the blocked options with other booking sites.

The page also pointed delegates toward hostels in and around Utrecht, which offered affordable rooms for small groups as well as private rooms.

02

Staying near the venue

The published list grouped four and five star hotels by distance. Some were two to nineteen minutes on foot from the venue; others were eleven to twenty one minutes away by public transport. Single and double rates varied by hotel.

Delegates who wanted to stay in the historic centre could combine a short walk with the train or bus. Those who preferred to be beside the venue could choose one of the hotels within a few minutes of the Beatrix Building.

Archive note This reference edition does not book rooms and cannot confirm current prices or availability. The 2019 rates are not a quotation for a future stay.

03

A warning about room agents

The organisers warned about companies that approached delegates and exhibitors with apparent bargains on rooms. Some claimed a false link to ISEE. Delegates were advised not to share card details with them.

ISEE never phoned delegates about rooms and had not enlisted any hotel or agency to do so. Anyone contacted by such a company was asked to report the details to the secretariat at isee@congressbydesign.com.
